Tony Robbins and the Benefits of Speed Reading

I’ve noticed that many students in my classes sometimes mention Tony Robbins. Some have taken his seminar, read his books or listened to his seminars. Many who have taken part in his programs have made positive changes toward their individual success. At Iris, we share many of the same empowering attitudes on self-improvement and education.

It is well documented to any student of Tony Robbins that one of the key contributors to his success was learning to speed read. Here is a direct quote from him (page 19-20) in his book Money: Master The Game:

“As a young man, I decided I was going to read a book a day. I didn’t quite read a book a day, but over seven years, I did read more than 700 books…”

While in junior high, Tony Robbins took a speed-reading course and began consuming what would be nearly 700 books through high school, mostly on psychology and personal development. By the age of 19, he had already read more than 1000 books.

Taking a speed reading course changed Tony’s life. It gave him the skills to accelerate and empower his personal growth and development. It put him on a path to become who he is today.

Reading underpins all knowledge. It really is one of the most crucial and critical steps to self-improvement as it arms and prepares you to accelerate all areas of personal growth, development and success. The more information and knowledge you can take in, the more it builds on previous knowledge and information you have stored. Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglas, Winston Churchill, Teddy Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett… all have been known to be voracious readers and all have attributed their success to digesting vast amounts of books and other reading materials of their time.

Areas Where Learning Speed Reading Is Beneficial:

• Keep up with magazine subscriptions, newspapers (especially those massive Sunday editions!) and web-based reading (The Economist, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, etc.).

• Stay informed with the New York Times Fiction Bestsellers everyone else is reading and be in the know for dinner conversations and events wherever they are discussed.
• Be up to date with non-fiction and business books everyone seems to be talking about at work.
• Job Seekers: Need an edge to rise above the pile? Speed reading is a skill you can list on your resume. Many of our students land interviews and jobs because speed reading demonstrates you are an ambitious, serious and productive potential employee!
